 "Origin of Medicine": Huangbo, treats insufficient kidney water and bladder, various paralysis and stiffness, and weak waist. The two-step method treats the upper burner, while the single-step method treats the middle burner and does not treat the lower burner.
 Li Gao: Phellodendron and Atractylodes are the key medicines for treating impotence. For those who have damp heat in the lower part of the body that causes swelling and pain, and have fire evil in the bladder, and have difficulty urinating and yellow and astringent urine, use wine to wash Phellodendron and Anemarrhena as the main ingredients, and Poria and Alisma as the auxiliary ingredients. For those who are thirsty due to poor urination, the evil heat is in the qi, and the latent heat in the lungs cannot produce water, which is the source of the lack of urination. The method should be to use medicines with both light and mild smells, such as Poria and Alisma, to purge lung fire and clear lung metal, and nourish the source of water. If the evil heat is in the blood of the lower part of the body, there is no thirst but the urine is blocked, which is what the "Su Wen" said: Without yin, yang cannot be produced, and without yang, yin cannot be transformed. As he looked around, the swelling disappeared. The Neijing says that heat can be treated with cold, and the kidney hates dryness, so it is urgent to eat spicy food to moisten it. The bitter and cold nature of Phellodendron chinense to purge heat, replenish water and dry up dryness is the main ingredient, the bitter and cold nature of Anemarrhena asphodeloides to purge kidney fire is the auxiliary ingredient, and the spicy and hot nature of Cinnamon Bark is the messenger, and cold is caused by heat.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: Berberis bark, which moves to the hand Jueyin meridian, has the effect of purging fire and replenishing yin. When combined with Asarum, it has a miraculous effect in treating oral ulcers.
 Zhu Zhenheng: Huang Bo, which moves to the yin, has the function of purging fire and replenishing yin. It cannot be used if it is not the fire in the yin. Zhi Mu nourishes yin and reduces fire, while Atractylodes removes dampness and clears heat.
 "Tangye Bencao": Huangbo, foot Shaoyin agent, kidney bitter dryness, so the kidney retains dampness, Gardenia, Scutellaria enter the lungs, Coptis enters the heart, Huangbo enters the kidneys, dryness and dampness go to their respective categories. "Huorenshu" Jiedu Decoction, treats both upper and lower, inside and outside.

It can also treat exogenous muscle heat, internal injury bone heat, blood loss, spermatorrhea and impotence. Huanglian enters the heart, Gardenia and Scutellaria enter the lungs, and Huangbai enters the kidney. The kidney is bitter and dry and stops dampness. Baibai tastes slightly spicy and can moisten dryness. It is beneficial to the lower body and can remove dampness, so it is the main drug for the kidney meridian. However, the Ben Jing says that it is used to treat heat in the five internal organs, which is caused by the madness of the fire rushing upward, the dryness of the intestines and stomach, and the five internal organs are all fire. All the above symptoms are caused by fire, and dampness is also caused by the stagnation of fire. If it is used to purge fire, the kidney water will be solidified, and there will be no danger of madness and leakage. The so-called kidney tonification also means this. Danxi said that if there is no fire in the kidney, and the pulses on both feet are weak or the left foot is strong, it is not suitable to use it. Only those with strong pulses on both feet are the most suitable.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica": Ancient books say that Zhimu assists Huangbo in nourishing yin and reducing fire, which means that metal and water are mutually generated. Huangbo without Zhimu is like jellyfish without shrimp. Huangbo can treat the fire in the bladder and the gate of life, and Zhimu can clear the lung metal and nourish the source of kidney water. Therefore, Jiegu, Dongyuan, and Danxi all think that it is an important medicine for nourishing yin and reducing fire, which was not mentioned in ancient times. Qi is yang, blood is yin, and when evil fire is scorched, the yin blood gradually dries up. Therefore, it is necessary to treat the disease of yin deficiency and fire movement. However, it must be used by young and strong people who can eat. If the middle qi is insufficient and the evil fire is blazing, long-term use will cause coldness. Recently, people who are weak and indulge in seeking children use yin-tonifying medicine, often with these two flavors as the main ingredients. They take bait every day, which makes the order too much, hurts the spleen and stomach, secretly damages the true yang, and does not warm the essence, causing other diseases. It is not known that this substance is bitter, cold and slippery, and that the bitter taste can cause fire if taken for a long time. Therefore, Ye's "Medical General Purpose" has a warning that if the four substances are added with Anemarrhena asphodeloides and Phellodendron chinense, long-term use will hurt the stomach and fail to produce yin. If used raw, it can reduce the real fire, but if used cooked, it will not hurt the stomach. If it is prepared with wine, it can treat the upper part, if it is prepared with salt, it can treat the lower part, and if it is prepared with honey, it can treat the middle part.
 "Ben Cao Jing Shu" states: Huang Bo is used to treat heat accumulation in the five internal organs and intestines. When the Yin is insufficient, heat begins to accumulate in the intestines and stomach. Although Huang Tan is caused by damp heat, it must occur in people with insufficient Yin. Intestinal hemorrhoids and fistulas are also caused by damp heat damaging the blood. Diarrhea is caused by stagnation of stool, which is also a disease caused by damp heat invading the stomach and intestines. Women's fistulas are red and white, and Yin damage and erosion are all caused by damp heat taking advantage of Yin deficiency to flow into the lower part. Skin heat and redness, hot and painful eyes and mouth ulcers are all caused by Yin deficiency and blood heat. With the Qi of the extreme Yin, replenish the deficiency of the extreme Yin. If it is deficient, replenish it. As the same thing follows the same thing, the Yin will return to the heat and resolve, and the dampness will dry up and all symptoms will be eliminated. It is an important medicine for the foot Shaoyin kidney meridian, specializing in treating various symptoms of internal heat caused by deficiency. It is very effective and cannot be compared with other medicines.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica": Phellodendron chinense is cold and moistening, and it is the fastest to remove fire. Danxi said that it can subdue dragon fire, nourish the kidney and strengthen yin. However, how can the dragon fire be removed by coldness? How can the bitter and inferior water be supplemented? Yin deficiency and water exhaustion, the more it is reduced, the more dead it is. Nothing is worse than extinguishing the original yang. If the water is not dry but the fire is strong, it can be used to remove firewood. If the water is exhausted and the heat is dry, it is difficult to use it to supplement yin. Those in charge should be careful not to think of it as a supplement. I once heard Danxi say that the monarch fire can be directly broken, and the coptis can control it; the minister fire should be subdued according to its nature, and only the phellodendron can subdue it. According to this argument, it seems to be a high opinion, but it is actually very strong. The so-called following its nature is the theory of following treatment in the "Inner Canon". The "Classic" says: the correct one is treated correctly, and the one who follows is treated in reverse. The main treatment is to control fire with water and treat heat with cold; the secondary treatment is to help fire with fire and treat heat with heat; it is also called sweet and warm to eliminate severe heat. How can Coptis chinensis be the main treatment and Phellodendron chinense be the secondary treatment? It is said that Coptis chinensis controls heart fire and Phellodendron chinense controls kidney fire, but for those with blood in stool and hematuria, Coptis chinensis is suitable. Isn't it a medicine for the bladder and the lower part of the large intestine? For those who treat tongue sores and mouth sores, Phellodendron chinense is suitable. Isn't it a medicine for the heart and spleen? In short, Coptis chinensis and Phellodendron chinense are both very bitter and very cold in nature, but it is said that Coptis chinensis is water and Phellodendron chinense is not water, Coptis chinensis is a purge and Phellodendron chinense is a tonic. How can it be reasonable? 10. "Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Phellodendron chinense is bitter and penetrates into the bones, so it can reduce fire from the top to the heels, penetrate the skin and penetrate the marrow, and it is thorough, and it is specifically used to reduce the fire of the kidney and bladder. Because the kidney belongs to cold water, if there is too much water, it will be ashamed to disappear, and if it is dry and exhausted, it will become hot. If the qi rises from below the navel, it is Yin fire. The Neijing says that if the kidney wants to be strong, it should be strengthened with bitterness. Strengthening is tonic. Danxi named this pill Dabu Pills. It is made with salt water so that salt can enter the kidney. It is mainly used to reduce Yin fire to save kidney water. Stir-fry with honey soup, and take it to be attached to the diaphragm and not to go down suddenly. It can treat symptoms such as five-heart irritability, eye pain and mouth sores. Stir-fry it alone until it is brown, and treat red intestines, hemorrhoids, spermatorrhea, and damp-heat jaundice. Bladder heat, umbilical pain, and all kinds of fire can be broken with this, and the kidney will be strong without the risk of sideways movement. Because it tastes bitter and can move bones and sink, stir-fry it with wine, and take it with Siwu Decoction. It can be taken into the blood and treat pain in the joints of the limbs, soreness and weakness in the feet and knees, ulcers all over the body, and beriberi. Vomiting, nausea, yin deficiency and blood heat, and fire in the feet, this one is called Qianxingsan, which can disperse the fire in the yin and calm roundworms, and it also means that it can be reduced with bitterness.
 "Ben Jing Feng Yuan": Huang Bai, used raw, can be used to reduce real fire; processed with wine to treat Yin fire ascending; processed with salt to treat fire in the lower burner; processed with ginger to treat phlegm fire in the middle burner; fried with ginger juice until black can treat damp heat; fried with salt and wine until black can treat false fire; processed with Aconite juice for red face due to Yin deficiency and excessive fire.
 "Changsha Yaojie": Huangbai can relieve the dampness and heat of Ji earth, clear the depression and steaming of Yi wood, regulate heat and relieve the heaviness in the lower body, and regulate jaundice, abdominal distension, and typhoid fever. Wumei Pills are used to treat colds in Jueyin, with qi hitting the heart, pain and heat in the heart, and vomiting roundworms after eating. Because wood depression will cause worms to transform, depression and rushing will cause upper heat. Huangbai relieves the upper heat caused by depression and kills roundworms. Baitouweng Decoction is used to treat Jueyin disease with fever and heaviness in the lower body. Because wood depression will cause heaviness, depression and sinking will cause lower heat. Huangbai relieves the depressed lower heat and lifts heavy objects. "Jinkui" Zhizibaipi Decoction is used to treat Taiyin disease with yellow body and fever; Dahuangxiaoshi Decoction is used to treat jaundice, abdominal distension, and difficulty in urination. Because Yi wood is damp and sinking, it cannot be dredged, depression and lower heat are generated, which are transmitted to the bladder, and the water orifices are not open, overflowing in the meridians, so the body is yellow and the abdomen is full and feverish. Huangbai relieves dampness and heat and clears the bladder. Yang is weak and the earth is damp, and Yi wood is not able to reach the surface, dampness and heat are suppressed and rush to the stomach, causing pain and heat in the heart; sinking into the large intestine, causing heat and heaviness in the lower body; stagnation in the bladder, and spreading to the skin, causing abdominal distension and yellow body. Phellodendron chinense is bitter and cold and has a quick effect. It can relieve the liver and spleen and expel dampness and heat, clear the bladder and remove turbidity, and has a very quick effect. It is the best for draining the yang of the liver, kidney, spleen, and stomach. Later generations used it as a yin-nourishing and water-replenishing agent, which misled many people.
 Depei Materia Medica states: Use Phellodendron to replenish water, because it can clear the Yin fire that floats from the bottom to the top. When the fire is clear, the water can be solidified. It is replenished without replenishment. The evil fire in the Yin is not the true fire of the Mingmen. It is okay to use bitter and cold things to eliminate it. If the true water in the kidney is insufficient, the true fire in the water floats on the top. It is appropriate to use two earths to nourish it. When the water is sufficient, the fire will return to the internal organs. If Zhi and Xiang are taken by mistake, the water will become drier and the fire will become more flaming, and it will become a solitary Yang flying over, which is beyond salvation. The fire of the Mingmen, when it is in its place, is the little fire of life. When it is out of its place, it is the strong fire of scorching Yin and eating Qi. It is afraid of fire and must be eliminated urgently. Chuanbai and Danpi are necessary. However, when the little fire is out of place, the source of water is lost. The bitter and dry Chuanbai is not as good as the spicy and moist Danpi, so it does not hurt the true Yin.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: Huangbo, in the past, was used together with Zhimu in Liuwei Pills, named Zhibo Bawei Pills. Another pill was made by washing and grinding Zhimu with wine and adding cinnamon, named Zishen Pills, saying that it can nourish the true yin. Once this theory came out, the whole world followed it and it has remained unbreakable to this day. Huangbo is known to be extremely yin in nature, bitter in taste and cold in nature, and it has the effect of killing in the depths of winter, so it can enter Shaoyin alone to purge fire and enter the bladder to purge heat. All patients with hyperactivity of fire in the body and symptoms of bone steaming, fatigue and fever, red eyes and tinnitus, thirst and constipation, and damp-heat as the disease and symptoms of paralysis, watery diarrhea, hot diarrhea, jaundice and edema, hemorrhoids, blood intestinal wind, leakage of red and white, and various pains, sores, itching, and internal attack by roundworms, if the rudiments are large and strong when pressed, they can be fried until black and used temporarily, so that the damp heat can flow down, and the yin fire will be latent, so that the yin will not be tormented, and the yin will grow. It is not said that the true yin is damaged, and taking this will have the power of nourishing. Therefore, it is suitable for real heat and real fire, but it is useless for virtual heat and virtual fire. The nature of yin and cold can damage people's qi and reduce people's appetite. The fire of the true essence of the gate of life will disappear once it is seen, and the function of the spleen and stomach will be depressed once it is seen. The original qi is already weak, and the cold is stored, which will stop the vitality. Nothing is worse than this.

Nowadays, people do not observe the condition of the disease, but only treat it from the perspective of deficiency and cold, but do not know that most of them belong to deficiency and heat. The lower part of the body is full of dampness. At first, it is because of the deficiency of yin and the excess of fire, and the dampness gradually turns into heat. Then the dampness and heat block the transformation of qi, and consume the semen, which leads to the disease of weak firmness. All of these are the special treatments of Huangbo. Removing the disease of erosion of yin is to preserve the vitality. Who says bitter and cold are not beneficial to vitality? Huangbo treats the symptoms of dampness and heat in the lower part of the body, just like Cnidium monnieri treats the symptoms of cold and dampness in the lower part of the body.
