"Medical Origin": Atractylodes lancea has the same main treatment as Atractylodes macrocephala. If it is used to remove dampness from the upper part and induce sweating, it has the greatest effect. If it is used to nourish the middle part and remove dampness, it has less effect. "Secrets of Main Treatments" says: Its use is the same as Atractylodes macrocephala, but compared with Atractylodes macrocephala, it has a heavier qi and a heavier body. For shin and foot swelling, add Atractylodes macrocephala and soak it in rice wine, then scrape off the skin and use. 10. Li Gao: "Compendium of Materia Medica" only mentions Atractylodes lancea, without distinguishing between Atractylodes macrocephala and Atractylodes macrocephala, but Atractylodes macrocephala has a unique and powerful upward qi, which can remove dampness, calm the Taiyin meridian, and prevent the evil qi from entering the spleen. Because it is soaked in rice wine and fried with fire, it can induce sweating, which is unique to Atractylodes macrocephala in stopping sweating. Users should not use it instead of the other, because it is different in stopping sweating, but the other main treatments are the same.

Zhu Zhenheng: Atractylodes can treat dampness, and it can be used in the upper, middle and lower parts. It can also relieve all depressions. The six depressions of phlegm, fire, dampness, food, qi and blood are all due to abnormal transmission and transformation, and cannot rise and fall. The disease is in the middle burner, so the medicine must have both ascending and descending functions. If you want to open it, you must first descend it. If you want to descend it, you must first ascend it. Therefore, Atractylodes is a medicine for the foot yangming meridian. It has a strong smell and can strengthen the stomach and spleen. It can release the qi of the valley. It can directly enter all medicines, dredge the dampness of the yangming meridian, and clear the body. Cyperus is a medicine for the quick qi in the yin, and it descends the qi the fastest. It rises and descends, so depression is relieved and leveled.

"Compendium of Materia Medica": Atractylodes lancea is warm and dispersing, so it can induce sweating, relieve fullness, regulate the stomach and appetite, relieve abdominal distension and pain, cholera and vomiting, relieve depression, expel mountain fog and cold epidemics, disperse wind and dizziness and headaches, eliminate phlegm and gas, and edema. It is dry and damp, so it can treat cold dysentery, cold diarrhea, slippery diarrhea, intestinal wind, cold and damp sores. When decocted with Phellodendron chinense, it is the best to expel damp heat and paralysis in the lower jiao. However, only Maoshan is hard and small, and its taste is sweet and mellow, and it has more tonic effects, which is much better than other herbs.

"Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Atractylodes lancea, with a pungent taste, is mainly dispersing, warm and dry in nature. Dryness can remove dampness, and it specifically enters the spleen and stomach. It is mainly used to treat wind-cold dampness, mountain mist and miasma, and skin edema. It is all pungent and strong to expel evil. It controls the dampness of the three parts. If the dampness is in the upper part, it is easy to produce damp phlegm. This can be used to dry the dampness and remove phlegm; if the dampness is in the middle part, the stagnant qi will cause diarrhea, and this can be used to widen the middle and strengthen the spleen; if the dampness is in the lower part, the feet and knees will be weak, and this can be used with Phellodendron to treat weakness, which can make the feet and knees strong; its pungent and dispersing qi is strong, and it can be used to dispel evil and induce sweating, which is extremely refreshing. Combined with Liushen Powder, it can resolve damp-heat diseases in spring and summer; it can be used with Chaige Jieji Decoction to disperse the initial stage of malaria; if the fever is sweating and purging, the virtual heat is not resolved, and this can be added to Baihu Decoction to resolve it again, and the sweating will stop and the body will be cool. Miao Zhongchun used this herb as a powder to treat spleen deficiency and swelling.

"Yuchu Yaojie" says: Baizhu stays but does not move, while Atractylodes moves but does not stay, so Baizhu is good at nourishing and Atractylodes is good at moving. Its functions of digesting food, stopping vomiting and stopping diarrhea are similar to Baizhu, but Atractylodes is better at dispelling water and relieving depression.

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: Atractylodes lancea has a strong smell, which is stronger than Atractylodes macrocephala. It can penetrate from top to bottom, dry dampness and dissipate phlegm and fluid. Its fragrance can dispel filth and overcome the unhealthy air of the four seasons; therefore, it is often used for epidemic diseases. It is the most effective in dispelling filth and bad air. In areas of gloom and thunder, and houses that have been deserted for a long time, it is advisable to burn this thing before people live in it. This is also the meaning. For those who suffer from dampness and stagnation of spleen yang, fatigue and love to lie down, sore limbs, chest and diaphragm fullness and stuffiness, and even swelling of membranes and thick and greasy tongue, it is not without the strong fragrance of Atractylodes lancea that can open and relieve it, and phlegm and fluid are diffused, and it is not without this that it cannot be transformed. At the turn of summer and autumn, the heat and dampness are steaming, damp-heat diseases have cold and heat, and the head is swollen as if wrapped, or the chest is full and nausea, all of which require Atractylodes lancea, Patchouli, and Perilla leaf to wake up the spleen with fragrance and dryness, and the response is as loud as a bell. If the spleen is damp and stagnant, it may cause swelling of the membrane, fullness, diarrhea, malaria, dysentery, heaviness of the feet and swelling of the heels, or stagnation and difficulty in defecation and urination, and damp-heat stagnation, causing ulcers and ulcers, or cold and dampness combined, causing soreness and pain in the genitals, but with symptoms of turbid tongue and no thirst, Maoshu is the most necessary herb. It is a herb that is very useful for all internal and external diseases.

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
