【Predecessors release medicine】

"Compendium of Materia Medica" says: In recent times, some people take moxa alone, or use steamed papaya pills, or drink soup on an empty stomach, which is very good for the weak. However, it is also poisonous. The poison will cause fever and gas to rush up, and people will be manic and unable to control it. It will even attack the eyes and cause sores and bleeding. It should not be taken carelessly.

"Compendium of Materia Medica": Mugwort leaves are slightly bitter and too pungent when raw, slightly pungent and too bitter when cooked. They are warm when raw and hot when cooked, and are pure yang. They can take the true fire of the sun and can restore the lost primordial yang. When taken, they move through the three yin meridians and expel all cold and dampness, turning the killing qi into a harmonious one; when moxibustioned, they penetrate all meridians and cure hundreds of diseases and evil spirits, and can make people with serious illnesses healthy. Their efficacy is also great. Su Gong said that it is cold when it is raw, and Su Song said that it is poisonous. On the one hand, they saw that it can stop bleeding, and on the other hand, they saw that the heat rushed up, so they said that it is cold and poisonous. This is a mistake. They don't know that blood moves with qi, and when qi moves, blood disperses. The heat is caused by taking it for a long time, which causes the fire to rush up. Medicine is used to treat diseases, and it stops when it is effective. If there are chronic coldness and coldness, or women with dampness, stagnation and leakage, they can use mugwort, angelica sinensis, and other medicines to treat their diseases. Why can't men do that? But they want to have children and take mugwort continuously, which helps with the pungent and hot properties of the medicine. The medicine has been biased for a long time, causing fire and dryness. Who is to blame? Why blame mugwort! Aifu pills can treat various pains in the heart, abdomen, and lower abdomen, and regulate various diseases of women. It is quite effective; Jiaoai decoction can treat diarrhea and bleeding after pregnancy and childbirth, and it is particularly effective. For the elderly with weak Dantian Qi and fear of cold in the navel and abdomen, put cooked mugwort in a cloth bag to cover the navel and abdomen, which is wonderful. It is also suitable to put this inside the socks for cold and damp athlete's foot.

"Compendium of Materia Medica": Mugwort leaves warm the blood and meridians, promote qi circulation and relieve depression. It opens the orifices and awakens all diseases that are deep and blocked. If the disease is caused by qi and blood, phlegm and fluid accumulation, asthma, reverse qi, bone steaming, lumps, paralysis, carbuncle, scrofula and tuberculosis, moxibustion can cure the serious disease. If it is taken as pills, powders, soups or drinks, it can warm the middle and remove dampness, regulate the meridians and strengthen the uterus, so it is often used in women's prescriptions.

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: Mugwort leaves can open up the twelve meridians, and are especially good for the liver, spleen, and kidneys. They are good at warming the middle, expelling cold, removing dampness, and promoting the flow of qi in the blood and relieving qi stagnation. They are most suitable for women with cold blood and qi stagnation. They can be used raw or pounded into juice, or cooked or boiled into soup, or moxibustioned to cure all diseases, or fried and hot for compressing and ironing to open up the meridians, or wrapped in a bag to warm the navel and knees. They are suitable for both the exterior and the interior, whether raw or cooked.

"Ben Cao Zheng Yi" (Compendium of Materia Medica): The ancients used moxibustion to treat all diseases. This is the most useful moxibustion method. Therefore, "Bie Lu" puts it before the main treatment. The decoction is used for decoction. It is suitable for stopping vomiting blood. It is used for its pungent and open properties to relieve the congestion of the meridians. However, its warming nature is not suitable for the symptoms of overflow. The ancients had the Four Raw Pills, which are mainly made of cypress leaves, lotus leaves, and raw earth, which are used to clear and descend, and are supplemented with the pungent and warm properties of moxa leaves. They want the same qi to seek each other and be easy to respond. It is not possible for moxa alone to stop vomiting and bleeding. As for stopping diarrhea, it is suitable for cold diarrhea. It is pungent and warm to lift. For lower ulcers, it is a disease caused by damp heat and insects. It is bitter and warm to dry dampness and kill insects. This is its special function. If a woman has bleeding, it is because the qi in the middle is cold and the lower part of the body has no power to absorb blood, so the blood flows out of control and flows without reason. The Jiao Ai Tang in the Golden Chamber warms the meridians and lifts them up, consolidates the yin and harmonizes the yang, which is the correct treatment, not the blood flowing out due to the heat of the blood. People who grow muscles, weak people, thin bodies with little blood, can be warmed and nourished by this, so that the qi and blood will flourish and the muscles will naturally grow. There are also ulcers with both qi and blood deficiency, and the yang is not moving, so the new muscles will not grow. Mugwort can warm and harmonize the blood vessels, so that the muscles will grow easily. If there is too much heat and the fluid is burned, it is not the right treatment.

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
