【Predecessors release medicine】

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Dipsacus is a medicine for replenishing blood vessels. Generally speaking, blood vessels that are broken cannot be replenished without this, injured tendons and bones cannot be nourished without this, joints that are blocked cannot be damaged without this, and pregnancy that is damaged cannot be disturbed without this. Taking it regularly for a long time can increase energy and strength, and has the effect of replenishing injuries and generating blood. It replenishes without stagnation, and promotes blood circulation without causing leakage. Therefore, it is often used in gynecology and surgery."

"Compendium of Materia Medica": "Dipsacus is used for its bitter and astringent properties. Its bitter and heavy taste can enter the blood, regulate blood vessels, reduce swelling and poison, breast abscess, scrofula, hemorrhoids, treat metal damage and falls, and repair tendons, bones and blood vessels; its astringent taste can treat vomiting blood, epistaxis, metrorrhagia, fetal leakage, blood in the stool, hematuria, regulate bloody dysentery, reduce urination, and stop spermatorrhea. It is especially effective when supplemented with sweet herbs, such as licorice, rehmannia, ginseng, and yam."

"Pharmaceutical Chemistry": "Dipsacus asper, bitter nourishes blood vessels, pungent nourishes skin and fur, is good at regulating blood vessel damage, and connects broken tendons and bones, so it is called Dipsacus asper. It can eliminate breast abscesses and scrofula externally, and clear hemorrhoids and intestinal redness internally. It is the most reliable for its mild aroma and clear taste, and can regulate menstruation and pregnancy. Moreover, bitterness can strengthen the kidneys, and pungentness can moisten the kidneys. It can treat frequent urination, spermatorrhea, nocturnal emission, back pain, and weakness of the feet and knees, which are all symptoms of the kidney meridian. If used together with Aster tataricus, it can regulate blood and moisten dryness, treat blood deficiency and constipation, and can promote blood and qi without leaking."

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Dipsacus is the best medicine for dredging qi, blood, tendons and bones. However, it is highly contraindicated for symptoms such as loss of semen, fetal movement, hematuria and blood loss due to its weak qi, as it is of low sexual nature. Its efficacy is equal to that of Rehmannia, Achyranthes bidentata, Eucommia ulmoides and Morinda officinalis, but it has a subtle difference in warming and nourishing properties, which should be known."

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Xiusuan, which can circulate through all meridians, can heal broken bones and regulate qi and blood. "Ben Jing" says that it can cure colds and replenish deficiencies, and it emphasizes its function of regulating meridians. However, the word "cold" in "cold colds" is hard to understand, and it should be "zhong". However, the old editions all use "cold colds", but Shi Wan's "Feng Yuan" actually uses "shangzhong". This is probably also Shi Wan's change, and it is not necessarily the case that the old edition he saw used "shangzhong". It can treat wounds, carbuncles, ulcers, relieve pain and regenerate muscles, as well as fractures and wrist injuries, bad blood, heal tendons and bones, and treat low back pain, joint tension and other symptoms. All of them have the effect of activating blood circulation and unblocking meridians. If women have difficulty in breastfeeding, it is said that it is during breastfeeding. Even postpartum diseases, Xuduan can promote blood circulation and can It can regulate blood. Therefore, it can treat postpartum and metrorrhagia." Also: "Dipsacus has a mild qi and a thick flavor, so it can enter the qi and blood, promote circulation of all meridians, and open up the joints. It can treat all diseases of the meridians, tendons, bones, and blood vessels, and it is particularly good at relieving numbness and atrophy. It tastes bitter and astringent, and can move and stop. It can treat metrorrhagia, leucorrhea, bloody dysentery, stranguria, and gynecological diseases such as pregnancy, menstruation, and leukorrhea, and various diseases of the eight extraordinary meridians, as well as various symptoms of wrist sprains, falls, external ulcers, carbuncles, ulcers, rot, joint pain, and difficulty in bending and stretching. It is very effective and has a wide range of uses. In addition, it works quickly, and its nature is gentle, without the disadvantages of being dry, fierce, and violent."

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
