【Predecessors release medicine】

"Compendium of Materia Medica": Wangbuliuxing can move blood, and is a medicine for Yangming Chongren. There is a saying that "pangolin, Wangbuliuxing, women take it and milk keeps flowing", which shows that it moves and does not stop. According to Wang Zhizhong's "Zisheng Jing": A woman suffered from stranguria and lay in bed for a long time. All medicines were ineffective. She used more than ten leaves of Jianjinhua to boil a decoction, and then asked her to take it. The next morning, she came and said that her condition had been reduced by 80%.

"Ben Cao Shu": Wang Bu Liu Xing, according to its name, seems to run but not stay, and its blood circulation should be the same as Tian Ming Jing. However, after carefully reading the main treatments in "Ben Cao", I feel that there are slight differences. For example, "Ri Hua Zi" mainly treats irregular blood flow and "Bie Lu" treats dystocia, which should be to harmonize blood and activate it, which is different from blood circulation. If you look at the prescriptions for treating blood retention, you will find that many of them use Du Niu Xi, which is a plant that specializes in all kinds of stranguria, which can further explain that it disperses stagnation and activates blood, not for rupture. However, this flavor should enter the liver. The liver consolidates the blood organ and controls urination, so it is indispensable for treating stranguria. Moreover, the wind organ is the blood organ. After reading Zhen Quan's words of treating wind poison and unblocking blood vessels, it can be seen that this flavor is particularly effective for Jueyin.

"New Compendium of Materia Medica": Wangbuliuxing is very fast in nature, and it moves downwards but not upwards. It can be used to lower the symptoms of any disease that is adverse and rushes upwards, so it can be used as a minister. However, its nature is too fast, so it is better to be temporary than long-term, and this is something that should not be ignored. Someone asked: Wangbuliuxing can lower the milk, so it is also something that can move upwards. I don't know that milk cannot go down, but it is lowered. After all, it is lowering, not moving upwards. Anything that can go down in the upper and middle parts of the body can go down, and it is not just going down in the lower part of the body but not in the upper part of the body.

"Compendium of Materia Medica" says: "Vaccinium sutchuenensis has the property of moving and not staying. ... Then we know that the smell and qi can be dispersing, which is indeed the extreme, so how can it stop bleeding? What book also says that it can stop bleeding and relieve pain, and can cure wounds, which seems to be contrary to the meaning of blood circulation. Don't you know that blood stasis can flow, and bleeding can stop, and it is not stopped by intention. The smell and qi can be used to make it flow, so that the blood will not flow in the wound for a long time, and the blood will disperse to each meridian, so that the bleeding will stop by itself, and the pain will be relieved. Why must it be stopped by stopping?

"Ben Jing Shu Zheng" states: blood is what circulates around the body without stagnation. "Ben Jing" and "Bie Lu" use Wang Bu Liu Xing to treat bleeding nosebleeds from wounds, and also treat difficult labor in women. It can be seen that it can prevent all blood from flowing out in the opposite direction, and can also prevent blood from flowing down without stagnation. It can be used for tunnels inside and meridians outside. So carbuncle, malignant sore, and breast atrophy are all caused by blood flowing down. They will naturally dissolve if they are mild, and disappear if they are severe. Blood flowing in the veins is blocked by wind, which is wind arthralgia; blood blocking the flow of blood and thinness of the qi in the blood are caused by irritation. Those who can cure them are also due to the smoothness of blood, so they are effective. Zhongjing used it to treat wounds, and the meaning was based on this. Later generations imitated this meaning to treat stranguria, which is also very insightful.

Bencao Zhengyi: Wangbuliuxing is only suitable for heat accumulation. Benjing is used to stop bleeding from wounds and relieve pain. Bielu is used to stop heartburn, nosebleeds, carbuncles, and malignant ulcers, all of which are used to clear fire and activate blood circulation. It can cure wind and arthralgia, which is caused by wind and heat blocking the meridians, but it is not used to treat wind, cold, and dampness. However, the words "neihan" in Benjing are difficult to understand. Li's Gangmu quoted it as "neisai", which was changed by Binhu, and it seems not to be a false word. However, other versions all use "han", which should be doubted and there is no need to force an interpretation.

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
