【Predecessors release medicine】

"Ben Cao Jing Shu" states: "Erysiphala is an essential medicine for dispersing wind, removing heat and detoxifying. Spicy flavor can disperse stagnation, bitter flavor can relieve heat, and when heat stagnation is dispersed, the internal organs are clear and bright, so it can improve eyesight and nourish the middle. Where wind hurts, the defensive qi will be blocked, and blockage will cause fever. Spicy and cool flavors can dissipate the qi, and the surface qi will be harmonious, and the wind will have nowhere to stay. Zang-qi is responsible for wind-toxic swelling and atrophy; Yuan-su is responsible for moistening the lungs, dispersing stagnation, relieving sore throat, removing skin wind, and unblocking the twelve meridians. This is the meaning. Therefore, it is used to treat eczema and smallpox, and it is particularly effective.

"Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Burdock seeds can rise and fall, and effectively resolve heat and toxicity. The bitter taste can clear away heat, and the pungent taste can dispel wind. It is mainly used to treat upper wind phlegm, facial edema, sore throat, various toxic heat congestion, saber scrofula, phlegm nodules in the neck, blood heat pox, seasonal rashes, skin urticaria, and all lung meridian fire depression and lung meridian wind heat.

"Ben Cao Qiu Zhen" says: "Nowadays, people only talk about burdock seeds for detoxification. Whenever they encounter sores, carbuncles, rashes, and other symptoms, they will use this to treat them, but they still don't understand its meaning. The toxic qi of ordinary people is mostly caused by external wind and cold, and the nutrient qi does not follow, and it goes against the flesh, so carbuncle poison is generated. Burdock is pungent and bitter, which can not only descend the qi downward, but also disperse the wind and remove heat. Therefore, when you are affected by wind evil and heat toxins, you will see edema of the face, cough and phlegm, swelling and pain in the throat, sores, rashes, and all kinds of stinky toxins, sha closure, purple and black pox, constipation, etc., all of which can be used to clear the exterior and clear the interior. However, it is cold and slippery, and taking too much will damage the middle qi, and make the exterior more weak. As for spleen deficiency and diarrhea, it is especially taboo.

"Ben Cao Zheng Yi" says: The use of burdock can disperse wind-heat, cause pox, and is good at relieving constipation. If it is not excessive heat or the spleen is not strong, it will cause diarrhea. It is pungent, purgative, bitter and descending, and has more downward power. Jie Gu said it is warm, and Jing Yue said it is ascending in descending , but they are not true. "Bie Lu" says it can improve eyesight, so the wind-heat is relieved and the eyes are clear. It can also relieve the heat and make the body healthy. It can eliminate wind damage, which is also the wind-heat. Its rhizome is called bitter and cold by Binhu in "Gang Mu", and the main treatment of "Bie Lu" is to eliminate heat and promote bowel movement. Its power is similar to that of Zi, but its cold and purgative nature is stronger. It is used to clear heat and guide. It should not be used without real fire. For those who are suitable for penetrating lung evil but not for suppressing and descending, such as measles at the beginning, it has not been vented yet. If it is used to clear and descend early, there is always a risk of suppressing the qi mechanism and causing internal collapse. Only burdock can clear away the pathogenic factors and can also help relieve constipation in patients with febrile and hot diseases and reduce the severity of the disease. Therefore, burdock is the most specific medicine for measles .

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
