【Predecessors release medicine】

"Tangye Bencao": "Shengdihuang, Qian Zhongyang, is used together with Mutong to relieve the fire in the small intestine to guide the redness. It can also treat the blood heat in various meridians with other medicines, including urinary hematuria and bloody stool."

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Shengdi is an important kidney-tonifying medicine and a top-grade yin-tonifying medicine. Therefore, it is effective in cooling blood and nourishing blood. When blood is nourished, tendons are nourished, and when kidneys are nourished, bones are strong and powerful. It can also treat pregnancy and childbirth injuries, which are all caused by blood. When blood is nourished, pregnancy and childbirth are safe. In addition, the kidney opens up the two yin organs, and blood is responsible for moistening them, which is why the two bowel movements are moist."

"New Compendium of Materia Medica": "Shengdi cools the fire of the head and face, clears the heat of the lungs and liver, and is used as the main ingredient for treating hot blood, vomiting blood, nosebleeds, or bleeding. It can also be used with Schizonepeta to return it to its meridians, and with the root powder of Panax notoginseng to stop its collaterals. However, this flavor can be used more often but not frequently, and can be used temporarily but not for a long time. When the bleeding comes, its momentum is very urgent, so Shengdi has to be used more to cool the blood and stop the bleeding. Once the bleeding stops, it is appropriate to switch to a warming tonic instead of continuing to use Shengdi. If it is decocted every day for a long time, the spleen and stomach will be greatly cooled, which will inevitably lead to diarrhea, lack of vitality, and bleeding again."

"Ben Jing Feng Yuan" says: "Shengdihuang, in "Bie Lu", is used to treat women's metrorrhagia, postpartum blood, thin heart, fetal movement, and nosebleed. All of them can be crushed and drunk, because it can disperse blood, eliminate blood stasis and relieve restlessness. It can treat injuries from falls and bruises on the face and swelling, and the swelling will disappear after crushing Shengdihuang. This is the meaning of Ben Jing for treating blood stasis in injuries, fractures and tendon injuries. The liver stores blood and governs the tendons. If the liver is not stagnant, the blood will be regulated and the injuries will heal themselves. If the tendons are not affected by evil, the three qi will be unblocked and the blood stasis will be eliminated. The soup is used to remove the accumulation of cold and heat, and the blood will be dispersed when it is harmonious, and all symptoms will be relieved. It is said that it can fill the bone marrow and grow muscles, and the evil will not be affected and the body and spirit will recover. According to the different functions of Shengdihuang and Gandihuang, how can they be mixed? Xu Zhicai "Bielu" says that fresh Rehmannia root is freshly dug, and is a special medicine for dispersing blood. Looking at the main treatments in "Ben Jing", they all refer to the fresh one. It's just that the various herbal books have never made it clear, and the place of origin is far away. The medicine shops only have the dried one, and the fresh one is absolutely not available, so it is inevitable to mix them up. Who knows that the dried Rehmannia root has been roasted and can stop bleeding, so how can it treat blood stasis in the middle of the body, fractures and tendon injuries? As for injuries that have been in the body for a long time, accumulation of blood inside, and cold and heat outside, it is better to make a soup with fresh Rehmannia root to lead other medicines and work together to break up the old and generate new. If the dried one is mixed with it, the bruises will become more severe, and how can it be expected to have the effect of filling the marrow and growing the flesh? I have reviewed various prescriptions, and all the medicines that have not been fired are dispersing in nature, and those that have been roasted are all in the middle, and this is not only true for Rehmannia root."

"Depei Materia Medica" states: "People often say that Shengdi is harmful to the stomach, but people don't know that it can stimulate the appetite. However, if the yang qi in the stomach is insufficient, taking it will cause the stomach qi to not move and the appetite to decrease. If the stomach is yin-deficient and the stomach soil is dry, causing the stomach qi to not move, Shengdi can nourish the yin to clear the fire, and the stomach qi will move from then on, and the appetite will naturally improve. When it comes to fever, Shengdi is particularly important. When the yin juice is filled, sweat will flow to the skin surface and the meridian evil will be eliminated; when the yin blood is moistened, filth will be discharged in the two stools and the visceral evil will be expelled. Therefore, if the fire evil overflows into the Yangming meridian, Shengdi juice can be added to Baihu Decoction, and sweat will be relieved immediately; if the evil heat enters the Yangming viscera, Shengdi juice can be added to Xianxiong Decoction, and the bowel movement will be smooth and the evil will subside. There are also Fire generates phlegm, phlegm generates fire, and they intertwine inside the body. If you mix raw rehmannia juice with bamboo oil and ginger juice, symptoms such as delirium and staring will be eliminated. If you don't have raw rehmannia, you can use dried rehmannia root, soak it in boiling water, squeeze the juice and drink it, to prevent it from getting stagnant, add bitter orange peel or Sichuan Fritillaria to clear it. And the airway is unblocked, the evil qi is expelled, and the disease will be cured. Nowadays, many people use raw rehmannia as a tonic, but they suspect that it will harm the stomach, so they dare not use it. Even if they use it, they only use one or two coins, or five or six coins. Add it to other medicines and boil it together. Half-ripened rehmannia will make the evil qi stagnate inside and unable to come out, and it will get stuck in the diaphragm and the stomach will be closed. So people regard it as a harmful product and forbid it from being used in prescriptions, causing the stomach yin to dry up. Many people are beyond help, which is also due to improper use. "

"Compendium of Materia Medica": "In the entry of "Bielu", when it says that raw Rehmannia is very cold, it refers to the newly harvested ones, so it is concluded with the four words 'all crushed and drunk', which means to crush and drink the natural juice. Compared with the dried ones that have been exposed to the sun, it is different. The one that is suitable for nosebleed and vomiting blood refers to the rising of Qi and fire, which carry blood upward and surge wildly. For example, vomiting and nosebleed are caused by excess Qi and fire, so it is appropriate to use severe cold to directly break the upward trend. The same applies to the real symptoms of fire, such as bleeding and drowning. If too much blood has been lost and the fire has been reduced, it is not suitable; and if too much is lost and both Qi and Ying are exhausted, there is no need to use it. The principle of using extreme cold is arbitrary. It is also said that if women have uncontrollable metrorrhagia, then the metrorrhagia is mostly caused by the lack of power of Chong and Ren meridians, and the loss of the power of the lower Yuan to hold back. There are many deficiency symptoms and very few real fire symptoms. There is no way to stop metrorrhagia by simply using cold and cool medicines. In general, for those who are losing blood, it is appropriate to use sweet and cold medicines to clear away the fire. Only when the yin is deficient and the fire is moving, the evil flames are raging, and the righteousness is not weakened, the pulse is strong and the spirit is vigorous, can you use cold and cool medicines to irrigate and remove the tendency to rely on it first. Once a lot of blood is lost, even if there is some residual fire that has not been extinguished, the body and spirit are already discouraged, and the pulse is weak, and it is not possible to use cold and cool medicines alone. If the body and complexion are weakened, the qi is weak and the spirit is exhausted, After the body is exhausted, it is still feared that it will not be enough to strengthen the vital energy. How can we use cold and cool medicine without restraint, which will further damage the body's health. Moreover, the severe coldness that stops bleeding will definitely cause blood stasis. Although it is said that Rehmannia root can disperse blood stasis, which is its specialty, it may not cause blood stasis caused by coldness. However, the nature of severe coldness cannot cure all kinds of blood loss and be suitable for everything. The words in "Bielu" seem to be too rigid and must not be followed. It is more used to treat postpartum blood thinning and heart suffocation, which will cause qi to rush upward. The method should be to reduce the adverse reaction and remove blood stasis, which is not suitable for sweet and cold medicine. Even if it is said that this thing can really break up blood stasis, the word "severely cold" does not mean that it is a general product for new products. We should be skeptical and not trust it easily. It is also used to treat fetal movement and bleeding, which is similar to metrorrhagia and is also difficult to use. It is followed by the three words "the fetus does not fall", which means that the fetus is already damaged and the abortion is not yet completed. It is used to break blood and induce abortion. The ancients used fresh rehmannia to dispel blood stasis and promote the flow of blood. It is also used to treat miscarriage, wrist fracture, blood stasis, and retention of blood, which is also a common use of fresh rehmannia by the ancients. Xu Shi of the Northern Qi Dynasty also said that fresh rehmannia can disperse blood. Yi said that if the injury is caused by blood stasis, swelling and fever, it can be used for external treatment. It can clear away heat and relieve pain, and its function of dispersing blood stasis is indispensable. If there is blood stasis in the internal injury, it may not be broken by the nature of severe cold. "

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
