"Main Treatment Secret" says that it has four uses: one is to guide the hand and foot yangming meridians; two is to raise yang to the lower yin; three is to treat headaches in the yangming meridian; four is to remove wind evil from the skin and the upper yin. Spleen numbness can only be cured by cimicifuga.
 Li Gao: Cimicifuga dispels Yangming wind evil, raises the clear Qi in the stomach, and also leads sweet and warm medicines to rise, replenishing the scattered Wei Qi and strengthening the surface. Therefore, for those with insufficient Yuan Qi, use this to raise Yang in the Yin. It also relieves the contraction of the belt meridian. For those with stomach deficiency and cold injury, and the stagnation of Yang Qi in the spleen and earth, Cimicifuga and Pueraria root are suitable to rise and disperse the fire stagnation. Leading onion white to disperse the wind evil of the hand Yangming; leading gypsum to stop the toothache of the foot Yangming; ginseng and astragalus cannot rise without this lead.
 "Tangye Bencao": Dongyuan said that Shengma enters the foot Yangming. If the disease is initially caused by Taiyang syndrome, Shengma and Pueraria root can be taken to induce sweating in the Yangming meridian. If it is too much, the Yangming meridian will be dry and the Taiyang meridian cannot be relieved, and it will definitely spread to the Yangming. If the soup is not used properly, it will not only be useless, but also harmful. Zhu (Gong) said that if blood stasis enters the interior, such as nosebleeds and vomiting blood, Xijiao Dihuang Decoction is the holy medicine for the Yangming meridian. If there is no rhinoceros horn, Shengma can be used instead. Shengma and rhinoceros horn have very different properties and flavors, so why should they be used instead? Because Shengma only leads Dihuang and other medicines to enter the Yangming meridian. Zhongjing said that if sweating or urination is induced in Taiyang disease, the body fluid will be lost, the stomach will be dry, and it will transfer to the Yangming meridian, and the harm is beyond description.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica": Shengma leads the Yangming clear Qi upward, and Chaihu leads the Shaoyang clear Qi upward. This is the most important medicine for spleen and stomach to guide the meridians for people with weak constitution, weak vital energy, overwork, hunger and fullness, and internal injuries caused by cold and raw food. Shengma Gegen Decoction is a medicine for dispersing Yangming wind and cold. Shizhen used it to treat various diseases such as Yang Qi depression and vital energy sinking, and seasonal red eyes, and it was very effective. Generally speaking, after the age of fifty, the number of people with qi disappears more than that of people with qi growth, and the number of people with qi descending more than that of ascending. There are more orders in autumn and winter and less orders in spring and summer. If the constitution is weak and there are the above symptoms, this medicine should be used to treat them. "Suwen" says that people who are supported by Yin essence will live long, and people who are suppressed by Yang essence will die young. Throughout the ages, only Zhang Jiegu and Li Dongyuan have explored the mystery and explained its subtleties. Cimicifuga can also detoxify smallpox, but it can only be used to detoxify when fever first occurs. It can also be used in small amounts after the smallpox has appeared if the patient is weak or has diarrhea. Cimicifuga Gegen Decoction should not be used after spots appear, as it is used to dissolve the toxins.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica": Cimicifuga is a drug that disperses the surface and raises the Yang. It can cure colds, relieve the evil of Yangming on the surface (fever, forehead pain, eye socket pain, dry nose, insomnia), cause pox when it is hidden, and transform the toxic spots when it is continuous. However, it tastes bitter, cold and flat, so it can cure the evil of wind and cold, fever without sweating; the evil of wind and heat, headache, swelling and redness of the eyes, swelling of the breasts and throat, and all of them can be cured by Cimicifuga. Another example is that the internal injury of the vital energy, the decline of the spleen and stomach, and the sinking of the extreme yin; or drunkenness and sexual fatigue, which damages the Yang Qi and causes the sinking of the extreme yin; or long-term diarrhea, the sinking of the Yang Qi, and the heaviness of the back; or long-term metrorrhagia, the injury of the Yin network, and the continuous dripping; or the fetus and the falling of the placenta, and the water is blocked; or the damp heat of men, the heaviness of the waist and knees; or the internal sinking of sores, purple and black swelling and pain; or the deficiency of the large intestine, or the inability to retract the anus, all of which can be cured by Cimicifuga. This is a medicine that can lift and resolve, so it can disperse wind, drive away cold, clear heat, resolve sores and rashes, lift sunken organs, support internal organs, and remove poisons. Moreover, among all the other medicines that cannot rise, only Cimicifuga can do so. It can be seen from its use with Gypsum and Licorice to treat toothache, with Ginseng and Astragalus to replenish the deficiency of the upper Jiao, and with Platycodon and Coltsfoot to treat lung abscess with pus and blood.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica": Cimicifuga is suitable for treating carbuncle, pox, yang deficiency, diarrhea, metrorrhagia, nocturnal emission, rectal prolapse, yang deficiency and sinking. It is not suitable for treating upper Qi stagnation, various fires and Taiyang superficial symptoms. It is bitter and dispersing, so it should not be used for treating blood Qi deficiency, or water and fire without roots.
 "Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Cimicifuga is good at raising clear qi, and is used less with ginseng and astragalus to raise and replenish the middle qi. Bupleurum leads liver qi from the left to the top, and Cimicifuga leads stomach qi from the right to the top. Adding it to Buzhong Yiqi Decoction has the effect of invigorating the spleen, making the clear yang qi rise and the turbid yin qi fall. It tastes bitter and pungent, and using it more often can also help to release the exterior and relieve muscles. It is also good at leading ginseng and astragalus to replenish qi and intelligence. Combined with Cimicifuga, it can treat fire depression and five heart irritability. If you are tired and mentally exhausted and have latent fire in the lungs, it may raise the yang qi and help the fire to produce phlegm, so you should avoid it.
 "New Compendium of Materia Medica": Cimicifuga must be used together with Qi and blood medicines. It can be used as an adjuvant but not as the main or the secondary. People are afraid that it will disperse Qi, so they dare not use it too much. However, there are times when it can be used too much, such as "Compendium of Materia Medica" and "Jingshu". The reason why Cimicifuga can be used too much is for the symptoms of rashes. If the heat is not too severe, there will be no rashes. However, because the internal heat is too severe, it will be released externally, and the skin and hair are strong and cannot be released immediately, so the spots can be seen but cannot be dispersed suddenly. Cimicifuga is not a drug for removing rashes. If you want to remove rashes, you must relieve the internal heat. The antipyretic drugs must not be expelled, such as Yuanshen, Maidong, Qin, Lian, Gardenia, etc. However, Yuanshen, Maidong, Qin, Lian, Gardenia can go down but cannot go out. They must use Cimicifuga to lead the other drugs out of the skin and hair, and then the rashes will disappear. If Cimicifuga is used too little, it cannot be led out, and the heat will inevitably go inside and all tend to the large and small intestines. The nature of fire is to rise. If it is led upward, it is easy to disperse, but if it is allowed to descend, it is difficult to resolve. This is why it must be used in large quantities. The heat and fire poison will be completely digested with Yuanshen, Maidong, Qin, Lian, Gardenia, etc. Yuanshen and Maidong are used about 1 or 2 liang, and Shengma can be used up to 5 qian, as little as 4 qian or 3 qian. It is absolutely not allowed to use more than a few fen or 1 qian. Shengma is a hemostatic drug. This is because I don’t know that Zhongjing used Shengma. Vomiting blood comes from the stomach, and nosebleeds come from the lungs. To stop bleeding, Rehmannia must be used, not Shengma. Those who use Shengma are just using it to guide Rehmannia into the lungs and stomach. For such diseases, Shengma should not be used in large quantities. A few fen can help to achieve success. It must not be used more than 1 qian.
 "Ben Jing Feng Yuan" states: Cimicifuga and Pueraria root can cause pox, but they can only be used when fever first occurs. Do not take them after spots appear, because their qi rises, which can cause heat and poison in the upper body, causing unpredictable harm. It is especially forbidden for measles. If you take them by mistake, you will suffer from panting and fullness immediately. Cimicifuga belongs to Yang and has a rising nature. It can help Yang Qi to resist Yin evil. Therefore, it is used in prescriptions for stranguria, diarrhea, and prolapse of the anus, because it can raise the clear Yang in the upper body. The ancient prescription for curing lockjaw dysentery is to stir-fry Cimicifuga with vinegar, introduce ginseng and lotus seeds, and help the stomach to eat, which is very effective.
 "Ben Cao Qiu Zhen" says: Cimicifuga is similar to Pueraria root, but it is pungent, sweet and slightly bitter. It can lead scallion white into the lungs, dissipate wind and cold and sweat. It can lead gypsum to treat Yangming vertex headache and toothache. It can lead ginseng and Astragalus to the spleen and stomach to nourish the spleen. It can also lead Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Astragalus, and Atractylodes macrocephala to nourish the Wei Qi and strengthen the surface. Unlike Pueraria root, which only enters the stomach, promotes fluid and relieves muscles, but cannot lead other medicines to strengthen Wei Qi. However, Cimicifuga is used with Pueraria root to enter Yangming to promote fluid and relieve muscles. It can also raise the Yang of Shaoyang Liver Meridian and Cimicifuga to raise the Yang of Yangming Stomach Meridian. They are complementary.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: Cimicifuga is similar in nature to Bupleurum, and has been used in conjunction with Bupleurum since the Jin and Yuan dynasties. However, Bupleurum promotes the Shaoyang in the half-exterior and half-interior meridians and relieves the inhibition of the liver and gallbladder; Cimicifuga promotes the Yangming meridian in the muscles and pores and lifts the stagnation of the spleen and stomach. Their uses are very similar, but their main functions are different, and they should be paid the most attention. Therefore, for symptoms of spleen and stomach deficiency and sinking of clear qi, such as chronic diarrhea and dysentery, turbid metrorrhagia, intestinal wind and stranguria, chronic hemorrhoids and prolapse of the anus, if there is no damp-heat obstruction, then the clear yang should be lifted, and Cimicifuga is indispensable. Bupleurum is still an assistant to Cimicifuga. Dongyuan's prescriptions for invigorating qi and raising yang are also based on this purpose, not to use Cimicifuga and Cimicifuga together. As for the deficiency of the liver and kidney, the yin is thin below and the yang is floating above, it should not be used to lift it up indiscriminately, which will cause the root cause of the disaster, which is the same as Cimicifuga. Cimicifuga can disperse the wind evil in the skin and muscles of the Yangming meridian, penetrate the surface and induce sweating. It has a great power, but it is only suitable for those with stagnation of the surface evil, and should not be used rashly for those with internal heat caused by yin deficiency. In addition, its ascending nature can eliminate headaches caused by wind-cold at the top of the head, but it is only suitable for external wind-cold evil, and headaches caused by liver yang ascending are taboos. Binhu said that Cimicifuga can cure dizziness caused by yang deficiency, but dizziness in the head and eyes is caused by liver yang being the most, so-called yang deficiency, which is very difficult to resolve, and it is probably not suitable for drugs that can lift and lift. Dongyuan said that the drugs used to stop toothache in the Yangming meridian are used to lead the medicine to clear the stomach, and enter the Yangming meridian, not Cimicifuga can stop toothache.
