"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Clematis chinensis is good at moving around and eliminating diseases. It is suitable for treating dampness, phlegm, blood stasis and qi stagnation. It has a slightly spicy taste, so it is also said to dispel wind. However, it is suitable for treating diseases caused by the retention of wind, cold and dampness in the meridians and joints, and other diseases. It is quite sharp in nature, so the meaning of the name can be imagined. However, the "Biography of Clematis chinensis" written by a Tang Dynasty writer actually said that it can treat aphasia caused by stroke, paralysis of hands and feet, crooked mouth and eyes, etc., which makes people misunderstand.

"Compendium of Materia Medica": Clematis chinensis has a warm nature and a slightly pungent and salty taste. Pungent taste releases qi, while salty taste releases water. Therefore, it is effective for people with strong qi to take it for rheumatism, phlegm and fluid. Its nature is generally laxative, and long-term use may damage the true qi. People with weak qi should not take it either.

"Ben Cao Jing Shu": Clematis root cures all kinds of wind, and is the best wind medicine for guiding and moving. Cold stagnation in the abdomen is mostly due to cold and dampness, phlegm and water in the heart and diaphragm, which is the retention of fluid in the upper and middle Jiao. Wind can overcome dampness. Dampness diseases like dryness, so it cures it. Bladder pus and bad water are all caused by dampness. Cold pain in the waist and knees is also caused by dampness flowing down and invading the tendons. Remove wind and dampness, and the disease will go away. It is said that long-term accumulation of diseases, lumps, gas masses and fractures. There are more diseases in the blood, less in the qi, and it is not necessarily due to dampness. It may not be appropriate to use it, so it is better to take it in moderation.

"Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Lingxian, fierce and urgent in nature, moves without staying, and dredges the twelve meridians. It is mainly used to treat wind, dampness, phlegm, and stagnation in the meridians, which lead to gout, pain in the joints, or swelling, or numbness. If the wind prevails, the disease is in the upper part, and if the dampness prevails, the disease is in the lower part. The two are suppressed for a long time and turn into blood heat. Blood heat is the root, and phlegm is the symptom. It can dredge the meridians, and blood stagnation and phlegm obstruction will be relieved immediately. If the hands and feet are paralyzed by a stroke, it can be used to assist other medicines to dredge the airway. Mix with wine to treat pain in both buttocks. Because of its fierce power, it can also soften bones. It can be used together with Chuanxiong, Gui, Guijia, and Xueyu to treat the failure of the pubic bones to open during childbirth. The effect is as good as the effect.

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

    1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

    2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

    3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
