"Compendium of Materia Medica": Eucommia ulmoides, ancient prescriptions only know to nourish the kidney, but Wang Haogu said that it is a liver meridian qi medicine, moisturizing the liver dryness, replenishing liver deficiency, and discovering what the ancients have not discovered. The liver governs the tendons, and the kidney governs the bones. When the kidney is full, the bones are strong, and when the liver is full, the tendons are strong. Flexion and extension are all related to the tendons. Eucommia ulmoides is purple and moist, sweet and slightly spicy, and its qi is mild. Sweet and warm can nourish, and slightly spicy can moisten, so it can enter the liver and nourish the kidney, and the son can make the mother strong. According to Pang Yuanying's "Tan Shu": A young man had a soft leg disease, and it was very painful. The doctor treated it as beriberi but it was ineffective. Lu Qi and Sun Lin diagnosed him and used Eucommia ulmoides alone, cut it into pieces, and took one liang each time, boiled it with half wine and half water, and he was able to walk in three days and recovered in another three days. Lin said, this is kidney deficiency, not beriberi. Eucommia ulmoides can cure waist and knee pain, and it is easy to walk with wine.

"Ben Cao Jing Shu": Eucommia, according to the "Ben Cao", is mainly used to treat back pain, improve essence and energy, strengthen tendons and bones, and relieve pain in the feet, and those who do not want to step on the ground. The waist is the home of the kidneys. The classics say that if you cannot shake, the kidneys will be exhausted. In addition, the kidneys store essence and govern bones, and the liver stores blood and governs tendons. If the two meridians are weak, there will be back pain and lack of essence and energy, and the tendons and bones will be soft and the feet will not be able to step on the ground. "The Five Internal Organs Want to Supplement and Purge" says that the kidneys are bitter and dry, so eat spicy food to moisten them, and the liver is bitter and urgent, so eat sweet food to relieve it. Eucommia is spicy and sweet, which can relieve the suffering of the liver and kidneys and replenish their deficiencies. Strengthening the will is because the kidneys store the will and benefit the kidneys. Eliminating itching and dampness under the genitals and residual urine is to remove the dampness and heat of the kidneys. Benefiting the kidneys and nourishing the liver will make the essence and blood sufficient. The main thing to replenish the middle is that the liver and kidneys are below, and they are the yin of the internal organs. If the yin is sufficient, the middle will also be replenished.

"Compendium of Materia Medica": Fang's "Direct Pointing" says: "If the lower part of the body is weak, Eucommia can only be replenished; if the lower part of the body is damp, Eucommia can only be used to treat it; if the feet and legs are sore, Eucommia can only be removed; if the waist and knees are painful, Eucommia can only be relieved. However, it is purple and dry, and its texture is soft and tough. It has a warm and nourishing effect. It can nourish the liver and kidneys, and is truly an essential medicine. If the liver and kidney yang are deficient and there is rheumatism, it can be soaked and roasted with salt and wine, which is very effective. If the liver and kidney are deficient in yin, but there is no rheumatism, it is because of the lack of essence and marrow, the dryness of blood and fluid, which leads to paralysis and kyphosis, so that the body cannot be bent or stretched, and it is also contraindicated.

"Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Eucommia ulmoides sinks into the kidney. The kidney needs to be strong, so bitterness strengthens it. It is used to strengthen kidney qi and strengthen tendons and bones. It is mainly used to treat soreness of the waist and spine, pain in the feet and knees, itching under the genitals, and residual urine. Dongyuan said that the effect is like a divine response, which is true. Achyranthes bidentata controls the lower part, and Eucommia ulmoides controls the lower part of the qi, and they are used together.

"Compendium of Materia Medica" states: Eucommia ulmoides enters the liver and nourishes the kidney. The son can make the mother full. It is also pungent and warm in nature. It can remove vaginal itching, remove scrotal dampness, and is essential for paralysis and weakness. It is essential for foot pain and fetal slip and nocturnal emission. If spermatorrhea causes pain, this herb can help to stop the sperm from falling, because its pungent and warm flavor can help the liver and kidney to invigorate the qi. The fetus is deficient in qi and blood is not solid. This herb can help to stop the blood from falling, because its qi does not rise, but leads to a downward movement. Its function is complementary to that of Achyranthes bidentata, Rehmannia glutinosa, and Dipsacus asper. However, Eucommia ulmoides nourishes the liver and kidney, and directly reaches the lower tendons and bones, qi and blood, unlike Achyranthes bidentata, which reaches the lower part and runs in the blood of the meridians. Rehmannia glutinosa nourishes the liver and kidney, and enters the essence of tendons and bones. Dipsacus asper regulates and nourishes tendons and bones, and is different in the qi and blood between the joints. It is strange that in today's world, people do not examine the deficiency and excess of qi, and use Eucommia ulmoides, Achyranthes bidentata, Dipsacus asper and other medicines to lead the blood downward. For those with deficiency and cold in the kidney meridian, this warm tonic can be used to consolidate the fetal essence. If the Qi is sunken and does not rise, the blood will be lost along with the Qi and the fetus will not be solid, using this medicine will make the Qi sink further and not rise, and the blood will continue to be lost.
